Code of Ethics

Why a Code of Ethics? A Code of Ethics provides a baseline of ethical expectations that need to be met by all members of the Organization, as well as a guideline to the general public of what they can expect from any one of our Organization's members.

All NHJPA members agree to abide by this Code of Ethics as a condition of membership to our Organization.

Members shall always exercise integrity, honesty and diligence in carrying out their professional duties and responsibilities.

Members shall safeguard the interests of their colleagues and clients, and shall not knowingly be a party to any illegal or unethical activity.

Members shall enter into no agreement nor undertake any activity which may be in conflict or give the appearance of conflict with the legitimate interest of their client, or that would prejudice their capacity to perform their professional duties.

Members shall protect any confidential information obtained in the performance of their duties, and shall not use such information for personal gain nor in a manner that would be detrimental to their client or any other party.

Members shall refrain from conduct or action which would detract from the reputation of the NHJPA or the profession of the Justice of the Peace as a whole. Members shall be mindful at all times of their responsibilities as professionals toward the community at large.

Will always present themselves in a professional manner.

Will possess proof of appointment as required by the State of New Hampshire to legally perform wedding ceremonies.

Will offer a simple to read and understand Agreement with fees and services clearly stated and signed by the JP as well as the bride and groom. A sample Agreement is available on the JP Member Site.

Honor all agreements that you have with your clients and service providers.

In the event of an emergency which would cause the JP to have to cancel a wedding appointment: The JP MUST contact the wedding couple(s) by way of personal contact such as in person or via the telephone (messages left on the answering machine is not acceptable). Under no circumstances shall the wedding couple be notified of cancellation by way of e-mail. The JP must speak personally with the Bride and/or the Groom.

Members agree that any and all complaints received by the NHJPA concerning one of our JPs will be dealt with very seriously. After hearing from all sides involved, a decision will be made by the NHJPA Founder whether or not to let the accused JP remain a member of the NHJPA.

Members also agree that this Code of Ethics may be changed from time to time in order to reflect any necessary changes that become evident to the NHJPA Founder. Members will be promptly notified of any and all changes and will have the option of accepting the new Code of Ethics or declining the changes and opt to remove themselves from the NHJPA Membership.
